THE CALL FOR PANELS FOR THE

2025 IPSA WORLD CONGRESS NOW OPEN

 

The Call for Panels for the 2025 IPSA World Congress of Political Science is now open! We welcome panel proposals on any subject in political science. Don't miss this exciting opportunity to share your research with peers and engage with the global political science community.

 

  • Deadline to Submit Open Panel Proposals: 28 August 2024
  • Deadline to Submit Closed Panel Proposals: 5 November 2024

 

To further enhance inclusivity and enrich academic discussions, IPSA introduced a new policy for the World Congress that allows participants in closed panels to present in languages other than English, French, or Korean (for LOC panels), provided that all panel members agree.

 

Note that the Call for Papers will open on 10 September 2024.

NEW ISSUE OF PARTICIPATION: SPOTLIGHT ON THE 2025 IPSA WORLD CONGRESS

 

IPSA released the latest issue of Participation (Vol.44 no.1, August 2024) on the 28th IPSA World Congress of Political Science, held from 12-16 July 2025.

 

The new edition provides detailed information about the 2025 Congress theme, plenary speakers Ban Ki-moon and Donatella Della Porta, the Congress program and venue, and the Local Organizing Committee, along with practical information on travelling to Seoul. The special issue also features messages from IPSA President Pablo Oñate, Executive Director Kim Fontaine-Skronski, Co-Chairs of the Local Organizing Committee Euiyoung Kim, Ajin Choi, Sunghack Lim, and Bumsoo Kim, Program Co-Chairs Azul A. Aguiar-Aguilar and Irasema Coronado, as well articles on the Congress theme.

REGISTER FOR IPSA’S 75th ANNIVERSARY CONFERENCE AS AUDIENCE MEMBER

Registration deadline: 15 August 2024

 

If you missed the paper submission deadline for IPSA’s 75th anniversary conference on Democratization and Autocratization (11-13 September 2024, Lisbon), you can still register to attend as an audience member. IPSA and APCP members benefit from a reduced registration fee to attend the conference. IPSA student members from Country Group C and Group D can register FREE OF CHARGE.

IPSA AT THE 12th LATIN AMERICAN CONGRESS OF POLITICAL SCIENCE IN LISBON

 

IPSA was present at the 12th Latin American Congress of Political Science, held from 17-20 July 2023 under the theme Latin America as an Actor in the Global Geopolitical Configuration. IPSA organized two roundtables featuring President Pablo Oñate and several Executive Committee members. The first, on the state of political science in Latin America, included presidents and representatives of national political science associations. The second, on populism in Latin America and Europe, examined populism and its impact on democracy.

IPSA PRESENT AT THE 2024 ECPR GENERAL CONFERENCE IN DUBLIN

 

IPSA will be present at the 2024 ECPR General Conference held in Dublin, Ireland, from 12-15 August 2024. Chaired by former IPSR editor Theresa Reidy, the IPSA panel Democratic Innovations in South Korea: Experiments and Prospects, will be held on Wednesday, 14 August at 11:15.

IPSA PRESIDENT-ELECT YUKO KASUYA PARTICIPATES IN A WORKSHOP IN ASIAN POLITICS IN HONG KONG

 

IPSA President-Elect Yuko Kasuya took part in the international workshop "The Intersections of Theory, Method, and Context: Asia and the Discipline," held at the City University of Hong Kong from 6-7 June 2024. The two-day workshop saw political scientists from leading universities in East and Southeast Asia present pioneering research and reflect on the synergy between disciplinary specialization and regional context.

IPSA REGIONAL DIALOGUES 2024 EDITION

 

IPSA successfully held the first phase of the third edition of its Regional Dialogues with national and regional political science associations (collective members). Five Regional Dialogue meetings were held virtually in June 2024 to foster stronger ties between IPSA and its collective members from Africa, the Americas, Asia-Oceania and Europe. The second phase will be held at the beginning of 2025.

 

This first phase of the third Regional Dialogue was held under the theme Sharing of best practices in the regions in transforming times for association membership.

AMBASSADOR ANNICK GOULET TO DELIVER KEYNOTE ADDRESS AT THE IPSA-CONCORDIA SUMMER INSTITUTE IN APPLIED DIPLOMACY

 

H.E. Annick Goulet, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Canada to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), will deliver the keynote address at the opening reception of the 2024 IPSA-Concordia Summer Institute in Applied Diplomacy. The keynote address, titled Navigating Modern Diplomacy: ICAO, Aviation's Global Forum, will be held on 19 August 2024 at 16:15 at Concordia University in Montréal.

EXTENDED GRANT APPLICATION DEADLINE FOR THE IPSA-ANTALYA SUMMER SCHOOL

Application deadline: 31 July 2024

 

The grant application deadline for the 2024 IPSA-ABU Summer School for Social Science Research Methods has been extended to 31 July 2024. This extension provides a valuable opportunity for graduate students and academics aiming to strengthen their skills in research methods. The IPSA-ABU Summer School for Social Science Research Methods will be held virtually from 16-27 September 2024.

Norbert Eschborn, a key supporter of IPSA’s academic activities, completed his five-year term as Director of the Konrad-Adenauer Foundation (KAS) Canada. Throughout his tenure, Dr. Eschborn demonstrated unwavering support for IPSA’s academic initiatives, significantly strengthening the collaboration between IPSA and KAS Canada.

CALL FOR PAPERS:

TRENDS IN INTERNATIONAL POLITICAL SCIENCE

 

The International Political Science Abstracts seeks articles for the journal's Trends in International Political Science rubric. Trends seeks to build on this material by identifying six emerging trends in the field. We gather leading articles on these trends over the past two to four years and seek scholars with expertise in each of these areas to write (in English) a 3,500-4,000-word overview of the subject, taking into account the bibliography we provide.

ROCHELLE TERMAN NAMED THE RECIPIENT OF THE 

2024 APSA-IPSA THEODORE J. LOWI FIRST BOOK AWARD

 

The 2024 APSA-IPSA Theodore J. Lowi First Book Award has been awarded to Rochelle Terman for her first book, titled The Geopolitics of Shaming: When Human Rights Pressure Works - and When It Backfires. Rochelle Terman is an assistant professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Chicago. She specializes in international norms and human rights.
