"THE UN AT 75" CONFERENCE A RESOUNDING SUCCESS
 
IPSA held its first online conference, titled The UN at 75: Challenges and Prospects for the Future of Multilateralism, with support from the Government of Québec. The event was presented in partnership with Concordia University and in collaboration with the Konrad Adenauer Foundation (KAS) and the Greater-Montreal and Québec branches of the United Nations Association in Canada. We would like to thank our partners, promotional partners and collaborators for their contribution to this international conference. We’re proud to report that the United Nations recognized the conference at its 75th anniversary event. 
 
The three-day conference, hosted on the Zoom platform, saw some 35 leading experts, diplomats and academics discuss a range of current themes in international politics. Keynote speakers included H.E. Bob Rae, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Canada to the UN; Michel Bonsaint, Representative of the Government of Quebec in the Permanent Delegation of Canada to UNESCO; Lutz Feldt, Vice Admiral (ret.) of the German Navy; IPSA President Marianne Kneuer and Cecilia Cannon, Academic Adviser to the United Nations for the 75th anniversary dialogues on global cooperation. Also contributing as speakers and chairs were Vice-President Yasmeen Abu-Laban, Vice-President Christopher Isike and IPSA Executive Director Kim Fontaine-Skronski.

THE 2021 IPSA WORLD CONGRESS TO FEATURE ITS MOST AMBITIOUS PROGRAM TO DATE! 
 
We are delighted to inform you that the second call for proposals resulted in a wave of new paper and panel submissions for the 2021 IPSA World Congress in Lisbon. Some 986 new paper proposals and 30 new panel proposals were submitted.
 
We currently have 5,870 accepted papers and 1,190 panels, making this the largest program ever assembled in IPSA’s history!
 
The review process for new proposals began on 5 November 2020, and in the coming weeks session chairs will face the challenging task of incorporating new proposals into the existing program and reorganizing panels. We take this opportunity to thank all our session chairs and panel organizers for their continued commitment and efforts during this ongoing transition period. Proposal notifications will be issued by email as of 22 January 2021.
 
NOVA University is slated to host the WC2021, and no online/remote presentations are anticipated for the time being. Congress participation procedures and guidelines may be subject to change in the coming months, however, depending on the status of the pandemic. Updates will be announced on the congress website, and participants will receive notifications by email.
 
 
IPSA LAUNCHES ITS REGIONAL DIALOGUES INITIATIVE
IPSA is pleased to announce the launch of a new initiative called Regional Dialogues. This initiative will feature five or six online meetings with IPSA collective members from different continents. The first two meetings, on Africa and the Americas, respectively, were successfully held on 30 Oct. and 12 Nov. 2020. 
 
The meeting on Africa was chaired by IPSA Vice-President Christopher Isike. It was attended by IPSA President Marianne Kneuer, Vice-President Yasmeen Abu-Laban, representatives of the Angolan (Paulo CJ Faria), Nigerian (Gerald Ekene Ezirim) and South African (Siphamandla Zondi) political science associations, as well as IPSA Executive Director Kim Fontaine-Skronski and Membership, Communication and Strategy Director Mathieu St-Laurent.
 
The meeting on the Americas was chaired by Yasmeen Abu-Laban and IPSA Executive Committee member Jesús Alberto Rodríguez Alonso. It was attended by Marianne Kneuer and representatives of the American (Steven Rathgeb Smith), Argentinian (Martín D’Alessandro), Bolivian (Maria Paz Salas Piludo and Jose Maria Paz Logatto), Brazilian (Mariana Batista), Canadian (Joanna Everitt), Colombian (Carolina María Horta Gaviria), Mexican (Jesus Tovar Mendoza), and Uruguayan (Diego Lujan) political science associations. Also attending were Daniel Buquet from the Latin America Political Science Association (ALACIP) as well as Kim Fontaine-Skronski and Mathieu St-Laurent from the IPSA Secretariat.
 
Regional Dialogues focus on three main topics:
  • The impact of COVID-19 on national political science associations and teaching at universities
  • IPSA services to national associations
  • Other important issues raised by national associations.
 
 
IPSAMOOCs GO LIVE: MEET THE INSTRUCTOR WEBINAR SERIES 
 
It’s a great pleasure to announce that IPSAMOOCs, a joint project from Federica Web Learning and IPSA, have launched a new webinar series called MEET the Instructor. The webinar series gives participants the opportunity to gain fresh insights, receive updates on MOOCs, and speak directly with instructors during the question and answer session. The series gets started at the end of November. Click here to SIGN UP and receive information on the upcoming sessions. 
 
The joint venture between Federica Web Learning, (Centre for Digital Learning at the University of Naples Federico II) and IPSA led to the first MOOC portfolio in political science. Since its launch, over 62,000 international students have benefited from the research and teaching excellence provided by IPSAMOOCs. 
 
Offered by leading academics across the IPSA community, IPSAMOOCs explore essential and trending topics in today’s challenging and changing world. Together, they form a comprehensive political science curriculum leading to a professional certificate. The courses are available on the Federica edx platform, and they can be audited free of charge.
