BAN KI-MOON AS PLENARY SPEAKER AT THE 2025 IPSA WORLD CONGRESS 

 

IPSA is honored to announce that His Excellency Ban Ki-moon, former Secretary-General of the United Nations, will be a plenary speaker at the 2025 IPSA World Congress of Political Science in Seoul on Sunday, 13 July 2025. IPSA’s 75th ANNIVERSARY CONFERENCE STARTS ON

11 SEPTEMBER IN LISBON

 

If you missed the paper submission deadline for IPSA’s 75th anniversary conference on Democratization and Autocratization (11-13 September 2024, Lisbon), you can still register to attend as an audience member. IPSA and APCP members benefit from a reduced registration fee to attend the conference. IPSA student members from Country Group C and Group D can register FREE OF CHARGE.

ADAM PRZEWORSKI TO DELIVER THE KEYNOTE ADDRESS

 

Adam Przeworski, the Carroll and Milton Emeritus Professor of Politics and Economics at New York University, will address the Democratization and Autocratization conference delegates on 11 September with his keynote presentation titled Studying Democracy. The conference will also see over 500 scholars from 74 countries gather to discuss a broad range of topics related to democratization and autocratization in 79 panels and six roundtables.

CALL FOR IPSA AWARDS 2025

 

The Call for IPSA Awards 2025 is now open! IPSA members are invited to submit nominations before 1 November 2024 for the Karl Deutsch Award and the Prize of the Foundation Mattei Dogan. You can also submit your application for the Global South Award, Stein Rokkan Travel Grant Award and the IPSA Guillermo O’Donnell Award for Latin-American Scholars by 1 March 2025.

IPSA AT THE 2024 APSA ANNUAL MEETING IN PHILADELPHIA

 

The 2024 APSA Annual Meeting will be held in Philadelphia, USA, from 5-8 September 2024, and IPSA once again will have a strong representation. Chaired by IPSR Co-Editors Daniel Stockemer and Annika M. Hinze, two IPSA panels will address democratic backsliding and its consequences for academic freedom. APSA delegates are also invited to the IPSR Reception on 6 September.

IPSA AT THE 2024 ECPR GENERAL CONFERENCE IN DUBLIN

 

IPSA was present at the 2024 ECPR General Conference held in Dublin, Ireland, from 12-15 August 2024. Chaired by former IPSR editor Theresa Reidy, the IPSA panel Democratic Innovations in South Korea: Experiments and Prospects was held on Wednesday, 14 August. On the same day, the IPSA World Congress team hosted a virtual Zoom session for ECPR General Conference participants.

THE IPSA-AECPA SUMMER SCHOOL FOR POLITICAL SCIENCE AND SOCIAL SCIENCE RESEARCH METHODS

 

The first IPSA-AECPA Summer School for Political Science and Social Science Research Methods will be held from 9-14 September 2024 at the University of Santiago de Compostela in Spain.

 

The School provides advanced training for graduate students and academics seeking to enhance their research skills. It offers an excellent opportunity for participants to expand their methodological knowledge, engage in research discussions, and establish new collaborations.

THE 2024 IPSA-CONCORDIA SUMMER INSTITUTE IN APPLIED DIPLOMACY SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED

 

The 2024 edition of the IPSA-Concordia Summer Institute in Applied Diplomacy, held in Montréal and virtually from 19-29 August 2024, proved to be a resounding success. The Summer Institute kicked off with a keynote address delivered by H.E. Annick Goulet, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Canada to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). The academic program was prepared by Prof. Elizabeth Bloodgood (Concordia) and Dr. Kim Fontaine-Skronski (IPSA).

NEW ISSUE OF IPSR PUBLISHED

The latest issue of the International Political Science Review (IPSR) (Volume 45, Number 4, September 2024) explores the influence of international organizations, financial institutions, and various internal and external factors on political representation. Featured articles examine topics such as the effectiveness of UN and EU air pollution regulations, the impact of World Bank and Chinese aid on state legitimacy in Tanzania, and the public response to activism on the part of athletes in Germany.
