- IPSA-ECPR Joint Conference: Call for Papers
Paper proposals may be submitted online at http://saopaulo2011.ipsa.org as of Monday, June 28.
The first conference jointly organized by IPSA and the European Consortium of Political Research (ECPR) will explore the continuing relevance of the international North-South divide, under the theme Whatever Happened to North-South? Hosted by the Brazilian Political Science Association at the University of Sao Paulo, the conference runs from February 16 to 19, 2011.

This book surveys the current state and recent development of political science in post-communist Central and Eastern European countries, including Albania, Armenia, Latvia, Lithuania, Serbia and the Ukraine. Covering patterns of disciplinary institutionalization in the context of state power and international influences, achievements and deficits in research and teaching, national representation and international cooperation, the book features 19 country reports plus an introductory chapter on factors of diversity and forces of convergence.
The volume includes (1) an introductory essay by the editors of Political Science in Central-East Europe and Impact of Politics: Factors of Diversity, Forces of Convergence; (2) some 19 detailed and comparable country reports on Albania, Armenia, Belarus, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Georgia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, and the Ukraine. Country reports include tables on political science faculties, students with political science as a major, and sub-fields taught at both state and private universities. Also covered are the following topics: Institutionalization of the discipline (identifying communist legacies, Western interventions and the influence of emerging albeit defective democratic regimes); achievements, deficits, prevailing approaches, and funding of research in disciplinary sub-fields; curricula, admission regulations, and degree systems in political science teaching; national representation and international cooperation (major journals and published books, political science associations, and international links); public impact of the discipline, labour market, challenges and opportunities.
Countries: Albania, Armenia, Belarus, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Georgia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, and the Ukraine.
- PSAI Task Force on Political Reform in Ireland
The Political Studies Association of Ireland (PSAI) has established a task force on political reform in Ireland. Chaired by David Farrell, its primary aim is to ensure that political scientists are able to contribute to ongoing debates on political reform in Ireland.
Other members of the task force include Elaine Byrne, Neil Collins, Michael Marsh, Gary Murphy, Eoin O'Malley and Jane Suiter.
To date, activities have included regular contributions to the http://politicalreform.ie/ blog, and the writing of opinion pieces in leading newspapers. The site is currently receiving over 200 hits per day and is gaining momentum. The task force will also be holding sessions at the annual conference this October.
People are invited to contribute to the blog through discussions and responses.

- Journal of Bangladesh Studies
Given the dearth of scholarly journals from Bangladesh in major libraries, the Journal of Bangladesh Studies (JBS) was launched in 1999 to establish itself among its South Asian peers as a knowledge reservoir on Bangladesh. Now entering its twelfth year, JBS is a double-blind, peer-reviewed journal published by the Bangladesh Development Initiative (BDI), and its purpose is to promote the development of Bangladesh. Today, JBS adorns the shelves of Berkeley, Columbia, Princeton, Cambridge, Illinois, Syracuse and other renowned universities.
Back issues with a lag of two years are currently available at
(http://www.bdiusa.org/publications/jbs.shtml). Please visit the website for articles of interest and feel free to tell your colleagues and fellow scholars about JBS. You’ll find some excellent material, which the editorial board hopes you’ll further enrich with contributions to the journal. Readers (i.e. academics) are invited to contribute to the journal.
IPSA's longest-running publication
Created in 1951, the INTERNATIONAL POLITICAL SCIENCE ABSTRACTS is among the most important sources of bibliographical information for researchers and students in political science and in related fields. Six issues annually provide about 8,000 abstracts of articles selected from among nearly 1,000 journals (and yearbooks) worldwide. Currently in its 60th year, the print edition has been published by SAGE London since 2007. Editor Paul Godt and Co-Editor Serge Hurtig invite IPSA members to subscribe at the special price of US$85 (contact membership@ipsa.org). Libraries and other institutions interested in the fully searchable online database are asked to contact EBSCO (database from Vol. 1, Issue 1) or Ovid (since 1989), each of which offers substantial discounts to developing countries.

First published in 1980, the INTERNATIONAL POLITICAL SCIENCE REVIEW (IPSR) is a major international journal committed to publishing material that makes a significant contribution to international political science.
