About the Role

The School of Politics and International Relations is pleased to announce that we are seeking exceptional scholars to take up the position 16 months fixed term Lectureship in International Security.

The postholders will contribute to the intellectual life of the School, Faculty and University and the wider research field of Politics/International Relations. They will work with a diverse community of colleagues and students to deliver excellent teaching and research. We welcome applications from across the range sub-fields, but an ability to contribute to core teaching is essential.

About You

You will have a PhD (or equivalent) in Political Science/International Relations or relevant Social Sciences/Humanities area and must have a developing reputation for internationally excellent research and an established record of high-quality publications. You will contribute to teaching and convening modules in International Security, offer research supervision and contribute more broadly to teaching and research within the School. You will have an understanding of the opportunities and challenges involved in teaching a diverse student cohort.

The School of Politics and International Relations at Queen Mary University of London is one of the UK's leading Politics and International Relations departments. It was ranked 7th overall among UK higher education institutions in the 2022 REF. The School has grown rapidly over the past five years and is now home to 50+ academic staff. It has recently expanded to include Sociology as well as Politics and IR in its teaching and research. It is home to a highly diverse cohort of students and offers a broad-ranging and methodologically plural curriculum in the fields of Politics and International Relations.

The post is based at the Mile End Campus in London. It is a 16-month fixed term appointment with an expected start date of 1st September 2023. The starting salary will be Grade 5 through to 6, in the range of £47,178 - £58,595 per annum inclusive of London Allowance.
